My Hookup Girl Page 11
He’s a shrewd negotiator, that’s for sure. I want to say yes so badly. His forehead rests against mine. “Please,” Jake pleads.
I kiss him deeply.
“Yes.”
He pulls up straight on his arms.
“Yes, you’re coming, or yes, you’ll accept my offer.” His motions don’t falter and soon I’m cresting again.
I scream. “Yes, yes, both.”
He smiles and leans back down to kiss me.
“Fuck!” He exclaims at my neck and we crash together.
A week later we’re signing the paperwork. It didn’t take him long to draw up the contract and have everything squared away. I’ve been scouting locations for my office. Naturally, he wants my office to be close to his. We talk of lunch rendezvous and making out in the car after business lunches together. I’ve never been happier. Everything is coming so naturally to us. I can’t get enough of this man.
I’ve heard back from my previous employer, DFW Designs. They want me back. I showed them my back and one finger. No one has heard from Trent. Becky, Trent’s secretary, has informed me that he may have skipped town. I hope it’s true. It’ll be too soon if I never see his face again.
Quickly, a month passes and I’m settled in my new office space. It’s three blocks from where Jake lives and in an up and coming area. I have a potted plant near the window and a beautiful white desk in the center of my office. There’s not much of a lobby, but I’m just starting out. I already have three clients lined up. With the way things are going, I’m looking to pay Jake back within a year! That’s if I eat ramen and possibly move in with Jake as he’s suggested a couple of times while between my legs. It’s all happened so fast. I’m just trying to slow down a bit. I told him maybe in six months. I think that’s a reasonable amount of time to move in with someone.
Plus, I don’t want to leave Maggie in a bind. I think she’s able to pay for the apartment by herself, but it helps her bottom-line if she has a roommate. Also, we’ve grown so close since we’ve been living together. I’d miss her inappropriate offhanded comments. I also can’t complain about the free pedicures and manicures she provides me. She even cuts my hair in our apartment sometimes. I love her dearly.
There’s a knock on my office door. It’s around lunchtime, so I assume it’s my dark knight. I move around my desk and swing the door open. I gasp. There’s a large bouquet of red roses thrust in my face.
“Oh, how beautiful.” The delivery man gives me a clipboard to sign. I thank him as he leaves. Closing the door to my office, I take in the flowers. I’m normally not a red rose type of girl, they’re a bit ordinary, but their aroma fills my entire office and it’s the thought that counts. There’s no card, but I have one guess who could’ve sent them. After setting them on my desk, I grab my purse and am out the door to thank my sender in person.
I reach Jake’s office ten minutes later. He seems surprised to see me. I guess he’s playing coy. He stands up as I reach his desk.
“Hey.”
I don’t let him say another word. Grabbing his neck tie, I pull him down to my lips. “Mmm.” Jake kisses me back and cradles my head. I pull away before he opens his eyes.
“Thank you.” I giggle.
“Thank you, sugar.” He leans in for more kisses and I give them to him.
“That was very sweet of you.” I step away from him and lean against his big mahogany desk.
“Whatever it is I did, I’ll do more.” Jake straightens his tie and sits back down in his office chair. I look at him quizzically.
“What do you mean whatever it is? You sent me roses this morning, right?”
Jakes eyebrows pull down and he shakes his head. I gaze at the floor and think who else could’ve sent them.
“Maybe, it was Mrs. Powell? She was very appreciative of that kitchen I designed for her.” I tap my finger on my cheek.
“There was no note?”
I shake my head. Jake shrugs his shoulders.
“Well, I’m sure it was one of your clients and the florist forgot to include the card or something.”
I nod in agreement.
“I’m glad I got to reap the benefits.” Jake stands up and kisses me again, fiercely. I wrap my arms around his neck and squeeze him tight.
“Are you free for lunch?” I ask.
He rubs my cheek with his thumb.
“Yes, just let me finish up this one document and I’m all yours.” His eyebrows raise up and down. I giggle and hit him on the chest.
“Okay, I’ll just go to the restroom to freshen up.” I turn on my heel and exit his office.
We have a wonderful lunch that afternoon complete with a romp in my car. It’s bliss. Maggie doesn’t even catch us, which is a miracle. A few days later, it’s Friday. I’m opening my office for the morning and as the door swings open, I gasp at the sight before me. On every square foot of my space there are black and white pictures plastered all over the walls, desk, scattered on the floor, and taped to my windows. I cover my mouth with my hand. They’re all pictures of Jake and me, in my car from the romp a few days ago.
I immediately grab my phone and call Jake.
“Jake!” I’m crying. I’m so frightened. What does this mean? Who could’ve done this?
“What’s wrong, Evie? Are you okay?”
I can imagine him standing up at his desk ready to head out the door to me, my knight. I try to calm down so I can speak.
“Someone . . . Someone broke into my office and . . .” I sniffle. Tears run down my face. I feel so violated. “There’s pictures of us up everywhere.” I sob.
“I’m coming. Leave the office and stand outside the building. Call the police when you get off the phone with me, okay?” I hear rustling, keys jingling and finally a beep from his door unlocking over the phone.
“Okay.” I’m shaking. I think I’m in shock. I walk out of the building close to the curb. Hanging up on Jake, I dial the police and am on the phone the entire time with them until Jake pulls up in his Porsche. I run to him as he gets out and he folds me in his arms.
“Are you okay?” He pulls away and cradles my face in his hands. I burrow deeper in his embrace. He holds me until the police arrive and follows them in as I stay outside and give my account to an officer.
Twenty minutes later, Jake and three officers file out. He seems shaken up and furious. Jake comes to me and rubs my arms. “They can’t take any of the pictures down yet, because they need to gather evidence. How about we skip town for a few days, until this clears up a bit? We can go on a weekend getaway. Take a few days to relax and recharge and then come back and fight this head on. What do you say?”
I don’t want to be out of Jake’s sight. I don’t feel safe right now even though he was with me when these pictures were taken. I’m in a bit of survival mode at the moment and getting away sounds like the perfect prescription.
“Okay, I’ll just leave my contact info with Officer Hernandez. Will you come to my apartment with me?” I wipe my tears away and put on a brave face.
“Of course.” Jake holds me once more. I leave my info with the officer and we drive to my apartment so I can quickly pack a bag. Jake is on the phone with a hotel in San Antonio. Our first vacation together will be leaving the city after a break-in at my office. It sucks, but I’ll take it anyway. If Trent’s still hounding me, he would be the person to attack my office. It might be best to stay away for a while. Maybe if I get out of town for a few days, the police will be able to nab him before we even get back. I smile for the first time in hours and try to enjoy this trip with my boyfriend.
Jake drives the four hours to San Antonio. Our hotel sits on the River Walk. I’m leaning over the balcony when he comes up behind me and pins me against the railing.
“I wish our first trip wasn’t running away from something, but I’m glad we’re doing this.” He kisses me on the cheek as we watch the patrons pass underneath us.
“It’s not the best circumstances, but I’m glad to be here
with you. You make me feel safe.” I hold his hands on the railing. I lean back and turn my head to give him a kiss.
We don’t make love that night. Jake does what I need, he holds me during the twilight. I touch his face and he caresses my body. His hands don’t leave me all night. I’ve never felt more loved and cared for. When the light hits our bed in the morning, we make slow love to each other. It’s the perfect way to wake up. We shower together and like true tourists, we take a boat ride on the River Walk.
“We should come down here every other month just for a recharge.” Jake pulls down his sunglasses to look at me.
I bask in the sunlight on the boat. “That sounds divine.”
He laughs at my admission.
Later that afternoon, we shop around and check out the Alamo. I’ve been here many times before, having lived in Austin my whole life. San Antonio was only about an hour away from our school campus. Lee and I would take little excursions and let off some steam from the stress of school. Lenora and I always had a great time.
It was nothing like this, though. I can really see Jake and me long-term, taking romantic getaways together and seeing sights for the first time, sharing in the experience. It’s more intimate than I’ve ever been with any of my other boyfriends. I feel this trip has brought us so much closer together. That’s why, later that night after we’ve made love for the second time that evening, I say yes.
“Maybe you should move in with me.” Kiss. “Then, we can do this all the time. Go away at a moment’s notice.”
“We can’t do that now?” I motion to us in bed together. I’m giving him a hard time.
He shakes his head and pulls the sheet down from my breasts. He knows that’s a weak point for me. Jake knows my body inside and out, everything that elicits a reaction. He can play me so well, but I can tell what he’s up to.
Kiss. “Yeah, but it would be so much easier if you were living with me. Then, I can have you all times of the night. I can wake you up by eating your pussy.” Jake rubs his tongue around my nipple. I moan. He’s not really playing fair. Although, I’m not either since my mind is already made up. I’ll let this go a while longer though. I’m enjoying him talking me into moving in with him. I grind my hips against his through the sheet as he lies on top of me.
“I don’t know . . .” I smile as Jake kisses under my breast and pulls the sheet down farther. He trails kisses down my belly toward my promised land. “Mmm.” I spread my legs and invite his touch. “What would that be like?”
Jake’s eyes sparkle with mirth. “Hmm, why don’t I show you?” He sweetly kisses my mound. I buck my hips up, silently giving him my answer.
I sigh, awaiting his attack. My body shakes with anticipation as he rests between my legs. Jake swipes one lick across my clit. He’s such a tease. Then, he lays his tongue flat against my core and delves in. He pumps his tongue in and out. He hasn’t done this technique before. I wonder why he’s been keeping that skill to himself. I grip the sheets beside me and bear the attack on my pussy. “Jake,” I moan.
This onslaught of his tongue has done me under. I can’t stand the intense orgasm I know is about to rip from me. I grip his hair. He grunts and pulls away quickly.
“Come on, baby. Give me that sugar.” That does it. He goes back to licking me like his personal lollipop and I crash. He moans as I scream. I’m sure they can hear me down in the hotel lobby all the way from the sixth floor. I unabashedly rub myself against his mouth as my high slowly comes down. I’m panting like I’ve run a race and there’s nothing but a smirk on Jake’s face. I match it.
“Okay.”
His mouth drops open and he pounces on me.
“Okay? Yes, you’ll move in with me?” He waits on baited breath.
“Yes!” I giggle.
Jake’s mouth crashes down on mine. I can taste my essence. It makes me want him again. Since he’s already naked, I rub my wet core against his hard cock, already encompassed in a condom. He bites his lip as he slips inside me.
“I’ll always give it to you, Evie.”
I grab his ass and he fucks me hard until we’re both satisfied and exhausted. I have a dreamless sleep that night and wake well rested in the morning.

It’s Sunday morning and the day we must drive back to Dallas. It’s been a whirlwind of a vacation, one of the best. I feel like so much has happened since we’ve been gone. Then we enter Dallas, and I feel like nothing has changed.
“Are you okay?” Jake rubs my leg as we take the exit toward downtown. He can sense the tension in my body and the expression on my face. “Don’t worry, okay? I’ve spoken with Officer Hernandez and he’s assured me that they’re keeping an eye on Trent Calloway.”
I was informed over the weekend that Trent went to go live with his mother in Brownwood, Texas after he was let go from DFW Designs. Brownwood is over two and a half hours away from Dallas. Apparently, he’s remained there. He has somewhat of an alibi, but I’m not sure his mother is a good one. I think of Trent’s face as he accosted me in his office. I shudder. Jake feels it and reaches for my hand and kisses the back of it.
“Don’t worry, baby. We’ll get to the bottom of this.”
We swing by my apartment to pick up a few things for the week. I’ve decided to stay with Jake until all this blows over. He arranged for the locks on the office to be changed and the pictures taken down. I’m still apprehensive about going back to my office. It makes me mad that someone can take a place that brought me such happiness and a feeling of accomplishment and turn it into something ugly.
Jake lightly suggested me getting out of my lease there, but I don’t think that would help. I can just as easily be followed to the next office space. I don’t want to let this ordeal ruin my life; I want to show whoever it is that I’ll continue to pursue my dreams and succeed.
Maggie is not at the apartment, which doesn’t surprise me since it’s Sunday. She’s always busy at the salon over the weekend. I grab what I need and leave her a note saying where I’ll be. I meet Jake at the bottom of the stairs. I jingle my car keys in front of him.
“Do you think I’ll need my car or are we going to carpool?” I ask.
He grabs my hand and we walk toward his car. “I’ll drive you. It’s close enough and no trouble at all.”
I kiss him on the cheek and we drive back to his place.
It’s weird living in Jake’s bachelor pad. I keep teasing him about his furniture and color choices. He takes it all in stride. He even mentioned that since this will be my place, I could decorate it if I wanted to. The only stipulation, no pink. I laugh at his request and promise him no frilly girly stuff. That’s not really my style anyway. I like slick, clean, contemporary lines with a cool color pallet.
A week passes by and it’s business as usual. The first day back was a little hectic but Jake stopped by and checked on me throughout the day. Each passing day got easier. I’ve even considered hiring on Becky, Trent’s secretary. I’ve remained in contact with her and she’s been demoted to a floater. Luckily, she still gets paid. I’ll have to check with Jake and see if I can afford to hire her on full-time. He remains a true asset to my business. He’s smart as a whip and is able to give me sound advice about profit margins and marketing.
I used to think he was shrewd and analytical. Now, I know he really wants to help people reach their dreams. Devon, who owns the Big D bar where Jake and I reunited, is opening a second location in the Oaklawn area of Dallas. Jake’s not only invested in me, but other small business owners in town. I’m very proud of him.
Lee is ecstatic about me moving in with Jake. I’m sure she’s secretly planning our wedding on Pinterest. Lee was right all along about Jake and me. Maggie was even sure we would be dating. My close friends figured it out quicker than I did.
I don’t want to get too ahead of myself, but things are going really well. He’s thoughtful and considerate, especially in the mornings when he makes me a great cup of coffee. I’ve never been with a
guy that was thoughtful like that. He even tolerated watching a girly show the other night.
I decide to call him and let him know I’m going to swing by my place after work for a few personal items. I haven’t even gone home once since we got back from our little excursion. It’s so strange how you can know someone for a short time and then live with them and it’s like you’ve known them forever. It feels meant to be.
“Hello, sugar,” Jake answers. I flush at my desk.
“Hey.” My voice sounds breathy. Who am I kidding? I’m already head over heels for this guy. I have been since he first touched me with that mouth of his. “Well, I just wanted to let you know, I’m going to stop by my place tonight. I need a few things.”
“Hmm, okay. Are you walking? I could take you if you didn’t mind waiting for a bit. I have a few documents I need to finish up and then, I’m all yours.”
My stomach flutters and I squeeze my legs together. I know exactly what that means. I can’t wait. In fact, I look forward to seeing him every night. The sex is out of this world and we change it up to make things interesting. I don’t ever see myself getting bored with Jake.
“Yeah, I don’t mind walking. If I leave now, I’ll get back to your place probably before you.” I smile. I know he likes it when I’m waiting at home for him. He made me a key early in the week. Of course, he put it down his pants for me to find. There was definitely a big surprise after the end of that scavenger hunt.
“All right, I’ll see you soon, then.” We hang up and I save all my designs on my computer and lock up my office. It’s still light in the city. Commuters are rushing, trying to get home to their loved ones. I smile as I think about heading home to Jake. We’re dating and living together. I think that pretty much makes us boyfriend and girlfriend. I’ll have to ask him later about that. I cross the three blocks to my apartment, head up the stairs and unlock the door.
